In 2021, this final design was the subject of a robust field study orchestrated by the ergonomics department of a well-known medical university. The study compared a traditional ball point pen to the AWP ergonomic pen and was studied for writing performance and hand comfort.

“…A large majority of subjects (i.e., about 75-90%) reported a perception of less finger pressure, less writing pressure, and less cramping of the hand when using the AWP pen.
In healthy subjects, the AWP pen has comparable performance to a standard pen under most circumstances and is perceived to require less finger and writing pressure by most users. It also results in less perceived cramping of the hand for most users. For some users, the AWP pen appears to reduce the rate of pain and fatigue increase during writing tasks… “
